Former Principal Secretary of Public Health Josephine Mburu
Former Principal Public Health Secretary Josephine Mburu has distanced herself from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority KEMSA scandal worth Ksh 3.7 billion which got her sacked.
Mburu, who appeared before the Senate Health Committee, said the executive orders reduced her duties from 13 to 7 and that she was in no way responsible for procuring medical equipment as part of her role.
Amid confusion over who should be held accountable, Mburu absolved himself of blame and urged the Senate to speed up its investigations to uncover the real culprits.
According to the former PS who claimed she had no involvement in the bidding process, the role fell squarely within the role of her former Ministry colleague Eng. Peter Tum, who had recently moved to the Ministry of Sports during of the recent redesign.
The committee also grilled suspended KEMSACEO Terry Ramadhani and Chairman Daniel Rono to check whether the irregularities in the procurement process were sufficient to cancel the tender and whether the government lost money in the process. .
In April, President William Ruto sacked the embattled PS and the entire KEMSA board over the botched medical tender on malaria nets
