Prince Harry’s uncle Charles Spencer has called a former Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) employee “pathetic” in response to a tweet she posted about Harry’s ongoing lawsuit against the publishing house.
Harry gave evidence in the case over two days earlier this week, becoming the first member of the Royal Family to appear on the witness stand in over a hundred years.
His complaint against the news group relates to the collection of illegal information and he alleges that MGN employees intercepted his voicemails and used private investigators to “prank” his confidential information.
MGN denies wrongdoing but admitted a 2004 article about the Duke of Sussex was the product of the UIG, for which they ‘unreservedly apologize’.

Amanda Platell, now a columnist for the Daily Mail, tweeted after Harry’s evidence ended: “Is Harry still obsessed with his former love Chelsy Davy? Harry mentions her 118 times in court, Meghan only five times. Not wonder Megs didn’t come!” “
The claim Harry made against MGN covers the period between 1996 and 2011, years before he met his now wife Meghan. His on-and-off relationship with former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, on the other hand, spanned six years, from 2004 to 2010.
Charles Spencer, brother of the late Diana, replied: “Pathetic […] you have no shame, let alone credibility. When I last heard of you, you were guilty of defamation of me as your employer at [the Daily Mail] agreed.

“Now you’re set up (by them?) to misrepresent important legal evidence as if it were something insignificant.”
Spencer appears to be referring to undisclosed libel damages paid by the Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers for an article claiming he acted in an unfraternal, heartless and ruthless manner towards Diana written under the column titled Platells People.
Spencer was not the only high-profile figure to speak out against Platell’s comments, Dr Evan Harris, former Hacked off director and former Liberal Democrat MP, also criticized the reporter.
The story continues
“FACT – Prince Harry’s MGN claim is limited to 1996-2011. He dated Chelsy Davey fc2004-2009 and only met Meghan in 2016.” Evans tweeted.
“FACT: Amanda Platell was an executive of the Mirror during the period the plaintiffs allege the executives knew about and covered up the collection of unlawful information.”
In his witness statement, Harry described the impact of press intrusions on his relationship with Davy.

“We were never alone and able to enjoy each other’s company away from the prying eyes of the tabloids. It put a lot of unnecessary stress and pressure on our relationship.
“We also couldn’t understand how private elements of our life together ended up in the tabloids, and so our circle of friends got smaller and smaller. I remember having a hard time trusting whoever whatever, which led to bouts of depression and paranoia.
“Of course, now that we know that this information was invariably obtained through illegal means, these friendships were lost entirely unnecessarily, which is a great regret for me.
“Ultimately, these factors led her to make the decision that a royal life was not for her, which was incredibly upsetting to me at the time.”
