The Nigerian armed forces have countered Niger Delta chief Asari Dokubo who on Friday claimed that 99% of oil thefts recorded in the oil-rich region were attributable to the Nigerian army and navy.
The military is at the center of the oil theft, and we must make it very clear to the Nigerian public that 99% of the oil theft can be attributed to the Nigerian military, the army and navy in particular, Dokubo told Correspondents. of State House after he met President Bola Tinubu behind closed doors at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
The former agitator, however, pledged to join the government in ending the threat, adding that he was confident that the Tinubu administration would draw culpable elements into the military.
But navy spokesman Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan and his army counterpart Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu denied Dokubo’s claims in separate interviews with PUNCH.

Ayo-Vaughan dared Dokubo to provide evidence to back up his claim, revealing that the Navy’s latest operation saved the country from losing N71 billion to oil thieves from June 2.
He said: “Also it would have been stolen off the coast at sea. We have fought the theft of crude oil by taking it to the streams. If Dokubo claims there is a military cabal involved in stealing oil, bring their names.
For his part, Nwachukwu said the Nigerian military has zero tolerance for any compromise by its troops and will not tolerate such acts of economic sabotage.
He added: The Nigerian military has zero tolerance for any compromise on the part of our troops and will not tolerate such acts of economic sabotage. No black sheep will be spared if identified.
