The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) on Sunday expressed disappointment with some state pilgrim councils over the allegation against the commission that it failed to hand over savings scheme enrollees’ funds. of the Hajj to the States, hence their refusal to allocate slots to future pilgrims on the program for this year. Hajj.
Refuting the allegation in a statement signed by NAHCON’s Deputy Director, Information and Publication, Mousa Ubandawaki, made available to Tribune Online, the commission called the allegation against her and Jaiz Bank “baseless and baseless. “.
The commission said it had previously agreed with state councils that the pilgrim allowance should be in a ratio of 60/40 per cent for pilgrims under state councils and subscribers to the savings scheme of Hajj.
According to Ubandawaki, “The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) expresses its deep disappointment at the alleged refusal to allocate slots to prospective pilgrims who registered through the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) and consequently met disadvantages in some states such as Kaduna, FCT, Gombe and Jigawa.
“These states attributed their actions to NAHCON/Jaiz Bank’s alleged failure to timely remit funds to the respective state boards.
“We categorically declare that such apologies are baseless and baseless. It is pertinent to state that Jaiz Bank promptly handed over the HSS tariffs to the States long before this year’s Hajj. This was even before many state pilgrimage boards remitted their payment.
“Secondly, in our extensive consultations with heads of State Pilgrim Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions, it was decided that the Pilgrim Allocation should be in a ratio of 60/40% for Pilgrims falling under state councils and Hajj savings scheme subscribers.
“It is therefore expected that the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Board has earmarked 40% or 2,000 of the allocation to the HSS.
“Even at that, only 108 of the expected 2,000 have registered, through the HSS in Kaduna State, out of the 6,255 allocated to them.”
He argued that what has been happening lately is that some states have done everything to systematically undermine NAHCON and the Hajj savings program in many ways.
“While the Commission has continued to be patient and understanding with them, it is evident that a new program or policy takes time to bear positive fruit, unfortunately this is not the case with certain states that have continually sought to defame and blackmail the Commission in their disregard of the council and some of its policies.
“Therefore, we would like to point out that the information disseminated by the Kaduna State Pilgrims Council and a few others is not only false but also malicious and intended to defame and blackmail the commission with a view to undermining its integrity,” the statement read in part.
While thanking the many HSS subscribers for their faith and trust in the program, NAHCON appeals to those who have been unfairly denied the opportunity by the various pilgrim councils to remain calm and obey the law.
He further said that “the commission is working hard to appropriately address the issue and also bring to justice those who are determined to undermine our policies or involved in denying their right to participate in the religious rites of Hajj.”
