But in the summit clash against the Baggy Greens, the Rohit Sharma-led side went no shots and suffered a humiliating 209-point loss. After the Indian batters failed to deliver the unique game, many former greats and pundits of the game blamed the IPL for India’s below par show. But former India head coach Ravi Shastri refused to blame the IPL for India’s forgetful show and instead said the IPL should be thanked because several Indian cricketers have found success after having played in the first T20 tournament, which provided them with the platform to showcase their skills.

“I don’t think the IPL is a bit of a disturbance. If Indian cricket is where it is today, you should thank the IPL. You should thank the IPL because it has produced players who are gone from the IPL to becoming regulars in Test cricket,” Shastri told The Week.

“She’s the goose that lays the golden eggs. So never point the finger at the goose. See how many eggs can be laid,” he added.

The 61-year-old also refuted pundits’ claims that Indian players haven’t had enough time to prepare for the WTC final due to their involvement in the money-rich league.

“From what I believe, Australia landed in England on the 30th, played golf on the 31st, then had 34 days of training and played the WTC final. That’s it. t”, Shastri said.

“It’s more about understanding what the conditions demand in England and training for it,” he added.
