I had enough! Rina Sawayama denounces the racism of Matt Healy during his concert

Rina Sawayama blasted Matt Healy during his performance at the Glastonbury Music Festival over the weekend. She called out the 1975 lead singer for the controversial racist comments he made.

He also possesses my masters! I had enough! Ahead of his song, STFU!, Sawayama gave the statement over a Korns Blind tween as an introduction.

Ghetto Gaggers is a pornographic series infamous for its misogynistic and racial content. It often features BIPOC women submissive to white men and fetishizing them. On a podcast, Matt Healy admitted to watching it and joked about the sexual pleasure of brutalized women.

Healy had also ridiculed rapper Ice Spice in a recent podcast hosted by Adam Friedland. They made fun of her heritage by calling her an Inuit Spice Girl and made fun of her using fake Chinese and Hawaiian accents. Ice Spices’ father is African American and her mother is Dominican.

Matt Healy and Rina Sawayama are both signed to the Dirty Hit label. It is managed by Matt Healys band manager Jaime Oborne. Until April 2023, Healy was a director of Dirty Hit Limited, which might explain why Sawayama claimed he owned his masters.

The master of a song is the original recording. If Matt Healy owns the Rina Sawayama masters, that means he owns the copyright to the original musical recordings. This means that it can use individual musical compositions, such as lyrics, as an element in countless sound recordings such as covers, remixes, etc.
