Court: Ebonyi government takes on group over N1bn bribery allegation

[ad_1]

The Ebonyi state government on Sunday reprimanded a group known as the Socio-Cultural Association of Ebonyi Indigenous Peoples in the Diaspora. (AEISCID) who accused the state government of planning to give a bribe of N1bn to judges and members of the Election Petition Tribunal to hijack the cause of justice in the petitions filed in the tribunal by aggrieved candidates from various political parties in the state’s just-concluded 2023 general election.

At a press conference held in Abakaliki, the state capital, the state information and guidance commissioner, Jude Okpor, said the government had accused opposition politicians of the state for hiring AEISCID to do their bidding and make defamatory statements against the judges of the court and the entire Nigerian judiciary to score cheap political points.

Okpor said that the attention of the Ebonyi State government had been drawn to a fictitious guerrilla media group single-handedly led by a Paschal Oluchukwu who resides in the United Arab Emirates.

It is a well-known fact that the President of the Ebonyi people living in Kuwait, Luke Anike, and his secretary, the kingdom of Onyedikachi, among others, had, in a letter dated 08/06/2023, distanced themselves from them themselves and their members from one of the selfish groups. and the somersaults of attention-seeking scribes from Paschal and his pet project, the Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora., AEISCID.

This clearly shows that Oluchukwu does not serve the interests of any group of Ebonyi living anywhere in the world.

Paschal, who prides himself on being an activist under the discredited body, in his rants alleged that the Ebonyi State government planned to bribe the court judges to pervert the course of justice and profusely obtain undue favor from them.

It is regrettable that politicians who were rejected by the Ebonyi people in the last general elections were able to hire a man who was not in Ebonyi State during the elections to make defamatory statements against the judges of the court and the entire Nigerian justice system just to score cheap political points. points.

The Ebonyi State government respects the judiciary and its lordships. Our unwavering confidence in the Nigerian justice system is beyond doubt. The Governor has no reason to panic over the outcome of the cases in the Electoral Court as he was overwhelmingly elected alongside other APC candidates by the good people of the State of Ebonyi. Governor Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru is aware that the judges of the tribunal are men of integrity and blameless character who can never stoop so low as to demand or accept any form of financial inducement from anyone or a group of people.

The Ebonyi State Government, under the leadership of our God-fearing Governor, His Excellency, The Right Honorable Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, has never planned to bribe, directly or by proxy, any member of the judiciary or his representative to influence the course of justice.

The majority of Ebonyi made their choice in the APC and overwhelmingly voted for over 90% of the APC candidates in the just-concluded general election. So there is no need to go through the back door to seek help from anyone against the hammer of justice. ENDS
