Following the clash between a Mr. Muniru Raji, a supporter of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and a former Senate spokesman, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, at the Osogbo prayer ground Eid on Wednesday, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party accused Basiru of mobilizing thugs at the prayer ground before Adelekes arrived.

The party said the heavily mobilized thugs took over strategic locations on the prayer ground in a bid to launch an assassination attack on the innocent governor, whose only mission was to pray alongside other worshipers Muslims in the state capital to commemorate Eid-el Kabir 2023.

A statement from party chairman Sunday Bisi warned Basiru and advised him to refrain from actions that could destabilize the peace of the state.

According to the statement, the sole purpose of the governors at the site was to observe Eid prayers like all other Muslim worshippers.

The statement said in part, Let this be recorded to emphasize that Governor Adeleke took all the rigors to do the Eid prayer rites after a previously turbulent day in Lagos, with no premonition of Basirus’ orchestrated plot to harm the leader. free-spirited from the state.

In a counter statement signed by Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun APC chairman alleged that it was Adeleke who brought thugs to the place of prayers, adding that the governor’s advanced party and protocol unit had stormed the premises, ordering Badmus and Basiru to leave where they were already seated, claiming it was the governor’s reserved seat.

The statement read: It was an attempt to forcibly remove Alhaji Badmus and Senator Bashiru from their seats at the prayer ground and Governor Adeleke’s subsequent executive order to the police to effect the arrest of the duo, which escalated into the confusion that engulfed the stage. .

It was also understood that the governor, who left the premises before the start of the Eid-El-Kabir prayer session, gave the order to close the entrance gate to the prayer ground in order to proceed. to the arrest of Alhaji Badmus and Bashiru, says Lawal.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke appealed for calm, urging everyone to maintain law and order, adding that he is safe and sound.

A statement from the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, said the state police commissioner had been ordered to arrest the perpetrators of the attack.

The statement reads in part, My good people of Osun, I call for calm and urge us to continue celebrating the Feast of Sallah in peace. I am safe by the special grace of God.

I ordered security agencies to arrest those responsible for the incident and bring them to face the wrath of the law. The police commissioner was ordered to arrest those involved, regardless of their position.

The statement also revealed that Governor Adeleke eventually left the place of worship out of fear for his safety.

The government notes in particular with astonishment and surprise the role played by former senator Ajibola Bashiru, who took over the space reserved for the Governor at the place of prayer. All efforts to get the former senator out of space have proven futile. Members of the PDP who campaigned for respect for the governorship were beaten. It was a scene of chaos as the governor arrived for prayer.

The government was further shocked that heavily armed thugs were spotted all over the prayer ground with security intelligence that they had been imported to eliminate the governor and key government officials. The governor, who arrived at the scene hoping to observe Eid prayers, was virtually surrounded by armed thugs, prompting security guards to transport the governor in his jeep.

For the second time, the Governor attempted to enter the prayer field but the encirclement by armed thugs was already visible. That’s when the governor had to leave the place of prayer, the statement added.
