Minister of Energy Atishi

Expressing deep distress over the matter, Energy Minister Atishi on Friday blamed the unprofessional behavior of one of her officers for the continued delay in the swearing in of Judge (Retired) Umesh Kumars in as Chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).

Pointing out that LG VK Saxena had written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to point out the unnecessary delay, government sources sought to point out that the appointment of Kumars under the provisions of the Centers Ordinance was deliberate. The Delhi government was unavailable to comment on the matter.

Atishi wrote to the President-in-waiting: This unfortunate situation has arisen because the Power Department has written to you, requesting time to take the oath, without my instructions or verifying my availability,

Sources said this was in response to Justice (Retired) Kumars’ communication that a decision on his swearing in, after his appointment on June 21, was still pending with the Minister.

Sources familiar with the content of his communication said the president was informed that Atishi would not be available after June 29 and would only be available for the swearing-in ceremony from July 3.

Justice (Retired) Kumar was due to travel from 29th and had conveyed his availability for the swearing-in ceremony as President any day from 26th to 28th June as the Minister was available on those days , the source said.

In response, Atishi called it extremely shocking that the Department of Energy wrote to Judge (Retired) Kumar without even asking if she was available on those dates. It was because of this outrageously lax and unprofessional behavior that someone as old as you had to suffer this inconvenience, I have ordered the Department of Energy to take disciplinary action against the officer responsible. . We can have the swearing-in ceremony in my office at 6 p.m. on July 3 (Monday) or anytime in the second half of the day on July 4 (Tuesday), she said.
