Katharine Birbalsingh made sensational claims in letter to Sir Keir Starmer

Britain’s toughest headteacher today claimed Labor MP Jess Phillips was ‘racist and intimidating’ for launching a ‘vicious mob attack’ on her in an extraordinary Twitter storm that was unleashed by the death of Tina Turner.

Katharine Birbalsingh, founder of the Michaela Community Free School in London, has posted a sensational four-page open letter to Sir Keir Starmer, making a series of claims about his shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding.

The row between the couple erupted in May following the death of pop icon Turner, prompting Ms Birbalsingh, who described the star as ‘an iconic black voice of the 1980s’, to post a gif, made up of “different clips of his life”. , with the caption “good times”.

However, she faced backlash when the post appeared in users’ feeds with an image of her with abusive ex-husband Ike Turner.

Ms Phillips shared the tweet, which has since been deleted, and wrote: ‘Hold the line!’ Stay with me! Domestic violence is never okay and we will defeat those who maintain the status quo. I repeat Hold on! Stay with me! We will win.’

When the headmistress claimed in a follow-up tweet – which has also since been deleted – that she did not support domestic violence, the MP responded by posting what Ms Birbalsingh described as a ‘sarcastic’ gif, captioned “Of course…’

Another message from Ms Phillips then added: ‘I’m brave enough to tweet under my own name. It seems that far from following any line of conduct, this female director does not seem able to criticize her actions. I’d love to hear about the domestic violence policies she has at her school or her teaching plans, maybe I’ll write.

Ms Birbalsingh says since the tweets were posted over a month ago she has suffered ‘a deluge of abuse on Twitter’ and claims parents have emailed the school asking for her dismissal.

In her extraordinary response today, Ms Birbalsingh – who has made headlines for her controversial views on ‘woke culture’ in schools – wrote to Sir Keir: ‘I wish to draw your attention to what I believe to be racist and intimidating behavior by one of your Shadow team.

“She inspired a vicious mob attack on me on Twitter on the evening of May 24, 2023 and questioned my school’s safeguard policies in a deliberate attempt to challenge my competence as a school principal.”

Her statement continued: “I believe that Ms. Phillips’ extreme and spontaneous hostility towards me is motivated by my race.”

“I don’t mean by that that she hates all people of color. Her behavior is a clear example of ‘unconscious bias.’

“I mean she hates me, even though she doesn’t know me, because she subscribes to the idea that black and Asian individuals in public life have a duty to express opinions that correspond to a left-wing worldview, or that they are worthy of his contempt.

Ms Birbalsingh went on to say she was making a formal complaint to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards about Ms Phillips’ actions, claiming they breached the code of conduct.

“Let me be frank: how dare she? writes the professor.

“How dare she tell me after 25 years of working in schools, with people I’ve known, in inner city areas where I’ve worked, that I’m an advocate for domestic violence.”

The statement then addressed Ms Birbalsingh’s “light skin”, which, although she has a black Jamaican mother and an Indo-Guyanese father, she said, was the result of masters historically raping their slaves.

“So I’m aware deep within myself that some women suffer,” she said.

Ms Birbalsingh (pictured) has caused a stir in the past when she claimed Shakespeare’s presence in the curriculum was under threat from woke educators and that children should not be allowed to use smartphones

“I am livid that Jess Phillips’ behavior towards me trivializes the untold horrors my great-great-grandmothers endured. Ms. Phillips does not own this problem and it does not belong to us black women.

“I would also add that in Mrs Phillips’ contempt for me she refuses to call me by my name. Perhaps that makes me sensitive. My name is part of my identity and if she wishes to disagree with me , she should have the respect to address me by my name. The white people took our names in the days of slavery and imposed new ones.

Her statement added, “She despises me for being a black woman who does not bend the knee and consider her master, and instead I commit the heinous crime of speaking opinions for myself.”

This is Ms Birbalsingh recently claimed that children allowed to identify themselves as animals, moons and holograms should be transferred to another school by their parents.

She added that she was aware of a child at a school who identified as a gay male hologram – and at least one school where a group of students identified as cats.

In the past, she has caused a stir by claiming that Shakespeare’s presence in the school curriculum is under threat from woke educators and that children should not be allowed to use smartphones.

Ms Phillips and Labor have been approached to comment on the allegations.
