According to Intel, most companies are still far from meeting their sustainability goals, and it’s often because of their inability to adapt to new technologies quickly enough.
The company’s survey of more than 1,500 senior IT leaders, 250 CEOs, and 250 chief sustainability officers (CSOs) revealed a clear appetite for “zero technology,” which Intel defines as reducing the footprint carbon of an organization’s IT function.
About four in five respondents think their company’s CTO plays a critical role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Technology will help us achieve our sustainability goals
In an effort to help put itself on the map in this area of business decisions, Intel has established an advisory council of technology and sustainability leaders. Together, they will guide organizations on their path to greater sustainability by incorporating real-world business demands into their agenda.
The seven panel members include senior representatives from companies such as RedHat, Cisco, IBM and Shell.
Intel Vice President and Chief Digital Transformation Officer, Motti Finkelstein, said, “The new role of the sustainable CTO will play a critical role in an organization’s transition to net zero, but CTOs cannot rise to the occasion. only the challenges they will face,” alluding to the company’s new initiative to help guide CTOs.
Citing lack of knowledge, investment, and innovation as three limiting factors, Intel has outlined four steps that should be on every sustainable CTO’s roadmap to zero technology:
“Build skills to understand where to optimizeGet broader business buy-inUnderstand data and optimize existing infrastructurePlan solution and software innovation”
With support from industries such as hyperscalers, financial services, healthcare, transportation, education, and retail, Intel hopes more businesses can achieve their goals with relevant and actionable guidance.
