Days after a video showed a man urinating on a tribal laborer in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, the victim has now filed a police affidavit denying the incident ever took place. He also said that any police action, against the person who shared the fake video on social media, will be valid.
The video was shared widely on social media last week, but was filmed a year ago. The villager who first shared the video on social media claimed he was now receiving threats.
Meanwhile, a complaint was filed Tuesday at the Bahri police station. Pravesh Shukla, the man seen urinating in the video, was arrested under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and other sections of the IPC, the court said. police. Amid outrage on social media, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the accused should be reserved under the national security law.
While locals claimed that Pravesh was a representative of MP Seedhi Kedarnath Shukla, the MP denied the same. In posters and photos showing the two together, the BJP leader said, I am a leader. People come and stand next to me, but that doesn’t mean he’s my representative, he told Newslaundry.
Newslaundry spoke to Deen Dayal Sahu, who had recorded the incident on his phone outside his shop near Panchayat Bhawan in Kubri village in Sidhi. The victim is a very simple person belonging to the Kol community. He had come to my store to charge his phone and was sitting on the stairs when Shukla arrived and started urinating on him. The victim tried to stop him but he didn’t listen. I recorded the video for a few seconds, then I tried to stop him, but he didn’t listen, he is the representative of the deputies and often the boss of the village. People are afraid of him and his group, even the police favor them, Sahu said.
Sahu shared the video with an Adarsh Shukla, who in turn shared it on social media on June 26.
The victim, Pravesh, Adarsh and Sahu are from the same village.
Adarsh claimed Pravesh disappeared as soon as the video was shared online and his family filed a missing person’s complaint blaming him. He also alleged that the police pressured the victim to deny the incident and blame him for posting a fake video.
On June 29, her family filed a missing person complaint with the local police station, and the police started harassing me. They said that in case he made a mistake, they would file a complaint against me. But he never disappeared. He was hidden. On July 2, I saw him online on Facebook and informed the police that they said they knew his location and found him in Satna. On the same day, they pressured the victim and made him write an affidavit that Pravesh Shukla did not commit any such act and that the video is fake, Adarsh alleged.
Newslaundry has seen the affidavit, which says that Pravesh Shukla is a high-profile political figure and the video has gone viral to tarnish his image. In case a complaint is filed against Adarsh Shukla on my behalf, it should be considered valid as the video is fake, he read.
Neither the victim nor his family could be reached for comment.
Newslaundry contacted Pawan Singh, SHO of Bahri Police Station. We learned of today’s incident itself. We have booked Pravesh Shukla under the SC/ST Act and other relevant sections of the IPC. We are looking for him and will arrest him. We also met the victim. We asked him about the incident, but he said nothing against Pravesh Shukla. We don’t know why he says that. Maybe he’s under pressure or afraid that senior officers will inquire about the incident.
On Adarsh’s allegation regarding the missing person complaint and the police following Pravesh on July 2, Arun Singh, an assistant sub-inspector of Bahri Police Station, said: His family had filed the complaint of disappeared but had returned the day before. But now he has fled again as the case escalated.
Newslaundry has also reached out to Sidhi SP Ravindra Verma for comment. He said he was in a meeting.
