BBC News confirmed the existence of these “threatening messages” and further verified that they were sent from a phone number associated with the presenter. In an interview with the BBC, the youngster expressed a lingering fear of the presenter because of the power he wields.

In response to the new allegations, BBC News said: “New allegations of threatening behavior and intimidation by the presenter raise new questions about his conduct.” The news agency also revealed that it had attempted to contact the presenter directly and through his lawyer regarding the latest accusations, but received no response.

It has been alleged that the initial connection between the accuser and the presenter happened on a dating app, but their subsequent conversations took place on other platforms. At some point during their interaction, the presenter allegedly revealed his identity and explicitly asked the youngster not to reveal it to anyone.

Earlier today, BBC chief executive Tim Davie pointed out that BBC News operates independently from the company’s corporate arm and provides “independent reporting” on the ongoing scandal. Asked if there were any additional complaints, Davie declined to comment due to an ongoing police investigation, saying: “Because this is the subject of active police discussion…absolutely I cannot comment on this. “
