Ben Yedder of Monaco accused of rape

Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder is under investigation after being accused of rape, the Nice public prosecutor told AFP on Thursday.

The alleged incident took place in the town of Beausoleil just north of Monaco on the French Riviera on Monday.

The public prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme confirmed the existence of two allegations of rape, emanating from two victims, targeting two people.

We do not know who the second person is, he added.

According to France Info radio, two women, aged 19 and 20, accuse Ben Yedder and his younger brother of forcing them to perform sexual acts after a party.

Ben Yedder, 32, made the last of his 19 appearances for France in June 2022 and featured earlier this month as Monaco began pre-season training.

His club issued a press release stating: Monaco has taken note of the information published today concerning Wissam Ben Yedder.

As the matter is the subject of legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment.

In April, Ben Yedder was found guilty of tax evasion by a Spanish court while in Seville and given a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of 133,798 euros ($149,753).
