Jeremy Pruitt tried to end racism with $300 in Chick-fil-A bags

Former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt has been a thorn in the side of University of Tennessee and Vols fans for three years. After being fired from Tennessee in 2021 after an internal investigation into giving money to recruits to attend college.

Well, it turns out that according to Pruitt, his reasons for giving money to recruits are more altruistic.

First of all… what? Like what? Are you going to solve the systemic racism plaguing America by giving recruits $300 in Chick-fil-A bags? Like that, everything seems very very funny to me. You’re going to coach, end racism with $300.

Second, the details here don’t exactly paint the NCAA in a very good light. From Adam Sparks:

Pruitt said a players mother showed up in the parking lot outside the UT soccer complex in tears due to financial difficulties. She told him she had nowhere to find money to pay her bills. Pruitt admitted to giving him the money from his car, where he usually stored it. He told investigators he felt sorry for her due to the financial strain caused by the COVID shutdown and that the UT Student Assistance Fund, which is used for struggling student-athletes, has been exhausted. And Pruitt said his privilege, race and social unrest were on his mind.

The university not having enough NCAA money is an entirely different conversation we can have, but Pruitt deciding to be Knoxvilles Mr. Moneybags is hilarious when you consider how foolishly he kept that money. Chick-fil-A bags? And you’re trying to BEAT racism? Come on man, dead giveaway. According to Sparks, Pruitt was walking around with wads of cash in his pockets, 75 four- or five-figure amounts to be exact.

Way to keep the Feds away from you, Jeremy. No one will ever suspect you of withdrawing thousands of dollars from your cash account just to walk around like Scrooge McDuck. Pruitt probably looks at the NIL moves the universities are doing now and shouts into the void, he was doing it first (albeit carelessly).
