Paddy Pimblett hopes to better control his weight between upcoming fights.

The 28-year-old Liverpudlian is currently recovering from ankle surgery and is still targeting a return to the UFC before the end of 2023. But Pimblett is also well aware of his reputation for increasing weight between fight camps. , and approaching the veteran lightweight. the crucial next step in his career, he knows his scale issues remain an obstacle that must be addressed if he is to do his best in his pursuit of the UFC title.

I hope to have three more fights in the bag by now [the end of 2024], three more wins and to be ranked,” Pimblett recently told SLOTHBOXX. But as I say, well see what happens. People keep asking me, do you fight? because I’m not that fat right now. It’s like, you gotta have a fight coming up, boy, you’re normally way bigger than that. It’s like, Nah, man. I’m not that big right now. But that’s what a lot of people keep telling me, boy, you’re not that heavy. You must have a fight coming up. No I do not have.

Like I said before I think I just had an eating disorder when I fight, when I lose weight and diet then after a fight I have a bad disorder food. At the minute, I’m not too bad because I obviously had surgery. I went to America and got fat again, then I came back and had an operation, and after the operation my weight gradually went down. Now I walk roughly [185 to 187 pounds] and I don’t really watch what I eat or anything. Im just hobbling at this weight, which is fine. I finally plateaued around that weight, so hopefully I never go above that. [198 pounds] Again.

With a perfect 4-0 record in the UFC, Pimblett has become one of the promotions biggest stars since his octagon debut in late 2021. He earned Performance of the Night honors for each of his three first stoppage wins against Luigi Vendramini, Rodrigo Vargas. , and Jordan Leavitt, but his most recent decision over Jared Gordon at UFC 282 was widely criticized as one of the most controversial judging results of 2022.

Pimblett said he is still targeting a return to the UFC in late 2023, injuries permitting, but he noted he is no longer 100% ready to fight.

He also once again brushed off all the haters who criticized him for his propensity to put on jarring amounts of weight outside of fight camps.

It goes in one ear and out the other. They can all fuck each other, Pimblett said. I really don’t care, boy. People can say whatever they want about me. I’m the one, as they say, who puts his life in danger and gets into the cage. So people on the outside don’t see what we need to do to gain weight. But like I said before, I’m actually going to try and keep my weight down now, so see what happened. I have never tried to do this before.

After every fight, I just bulked up and started eating about 8,000 calories a day. Now, I probably won’t do that.
