Republicans leading the House Oversight Committee investigation into Hunter Biden say an FBI agent has confirmed claims that Hunter received favorable treatment from investigators.

The Committee is investigating whether investigators looking into Hunter Biden’s tax affairs and his lies about drug use on a gun license gave the 53-year-old preferential treatment.

Two IRS whistleblowers — one anonymous, the other named Gary Shapley — claimed Hunter Biden was treated more leniently than ordinary Americans.

On Monday, the Committee said in a lengthy tweet that an FBI agent working the case agreed with Shapley that Hunter had received favorable treatment.

“The agent’s testimony is sickening and reveals how far the DOJ is willing to go to cover up the Bidens,” the Committee tweeted.

Democrats were quick to reject the agent’s claim, saying it was common for the FBI and DOJ to disagree on how to proceed with an investigation.

Shapley and his colleague said there had been a pattern of “slow investigative action” and delayed enforcement actions in the months leading up to the 2020 election, won by Joe Biden.

It is unclear whether the conflict they describe amounts to an internal disagreement over how to proceed with the investigation or a pattern of interference and preferential treatment.

Department policy has long warned prosecutors to be sure to indict cases with potential political overtones at the time of an election, to avoid influencing the outcome.

Shapley will testify before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Shapley previously told the House Ways and Means Committee that U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who oversaw the years-long Hunter Biden investigation, said he was not making the final decision on the charges.

Weiss, according to Shapley, also said he was denied the authority of a special advocate.

But Weiss denied Shapley’s claims, saying he was given free rein to do whatever he wanted and never sought the powers of a special counsel.

Gary Shapley has claimed Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from the Justice Department when it investigated him for tax evasion and gun license crimes. James Comer, a Republican Representative from Kentucky, chairs the House Oversight Committee.

The House Oversight Committee, led by James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, said the FBI agent’s testimony was shocking.

They said the Biden transition team was given advance notice that Hunter Biden was about to be questioned about his tax affairs and the gun charge, and Hunter then refused to talk to them.

He was charged with possession of a handgun, a Colt Cobra .38 Special, for 11 days in October 2018 when he knew he was a drug user.

Last month, Hunter agreed to a plea deal on the two separate charges and will appear in court later this month.

“Today, our committee staff conducted a transcribed interview with a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent assigned to the FBI Wilmington Office and the Biden Criminal Investigation,” the committee tweeted.

“The agent CONFIRMED key elements of the IRS whistleblower testimony, including that Secret Service Headquarters and Biden’s transition team were INFORMED of the scheduled interview with Hunter Biden.

“In fact, on the day of Hunter Biden’s interview, FEDERAL AGENTS WERE ADVISED TO HOLD AND NOT APPROACH HUNTER BIDEN, they were to await his call. Following the change in plans, IRS and FBI criminal investigators were never able to interview Hunter Biden as part of the investigation.

“The former FBI Supervisory Special Agent told committee investigators that he was never told to wait outside to be contacted by the subject of an investigation.

“The agent’s testimony is sickening and reveals how far the DOJ is willing to go to cover up the Bidens. The Oversight Committee, along with the @JudiciaryGOP and @WaysandMeansGOP, will continue to seek the answers, transparency, and accountability that the American people demand and deserve.

A Democratic source told DailyMail.com that the FBI agent’s complaint was neither surprising nor telling, as FBI agents often disagreed with DoJ decisions.

“Based on a decade of experience with the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI agent never knew the office’s Assistant U.S. Attorneys or U.S. Attorney Weiss to allow political considerations to sway their prosecution decisions in all cases,” the source said.

“The FBI agent acknowledged that it is common for FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors to disagree on investigative steps and charging decisions, and over his 20-year career, he has witnessed this happen frequently.

The FBI agent said that in determining whether to seek a warrant, it was appropriate for prosecutors to take into account additional considerations beyond the existence of probable cause in the execution of certain warrants. search involving politicians, lawyers, or raising election year sensitivities, in accordance with DOJ policy.

Joe Biden, when asked about his son, repeatedly replies that he is proud of him and his efforts to overcome his drug addiction.
