Steve Nicklas lives on a street that has county dwellers on one side and city dwellers on the other. When the city renewed the contract with Waste Management about 5 years ago, new trash cans were distributed to all residents of the city. In this case, it looks like the bins were delivered to both sides of the street instead of the city side of the street only.
If I remember correctly, Waste Management hired a contractor to deliver the new bins. Thousands of bins were delivered in a short time.
It appears that Mr. Nicklas took advantage of this error. Instead of doing the right thing and pointing out the error, it looks like Mr. Nicklas took out his trash for the city to collect for free, every week, for years.
I understand that over the years other townspeople have taken other people’s trash cans and put them out like their own. Neither the city nor waste management regularly checks to make sure the right person has the right bin. It’s basically an honor system.
Dishonest people are caught when reported by others, as most crimes are. A resident recently reported that Mr. Nicklas appeared to be getting free trash service. City staff investigated and the bins were removed.
Mr. Nicklas is cheating on the city and its taxpayers and you blame city staff for not catching him sooner? Really?
