Felix Rosenqvist blames Will Power for costing him a chance for victory in IndyCar’s late restart at Iowa Speedway, saying he’s never been so disappointed with a fourth-place finish.
From 16th on the grid, Arrow McLaren Rosenqvist driver used strategy and overtaking moves to work his way into command.
He was also helped by when Sting Ray Robbs’ yellow car lost a wheel, which lifted him to fifth place. Going into the final stint, he was elevated to second position after gaining places around the last bout of green-flag pit stops.
From there he attacked race dominator Josef Newgarden in the closing stages, but several stragglers got in his way and controlled his charge.
But a caution late in the race gave him hope for one last win, until he was jumped by Power at the green flag and shoved into Turn 1. After falling fifth, he had to fight his way past Powers Penske teammate Scott McLaughlin to finish fourth.
The last reboot, I don’t know, I felt like Will pushed me into the marbles a bit, he told NBC. I was very lucky to finish the race, because I was really looking forward to seeing how it would end.
I have never been so disappointed with a fourth place, but it was good driving and things on the last lap can go either way.
Hell of a day for us and glad we have some momentum. I would have liked to be on the podium though.
Rosenqvist thanked his McLaren engineers for improving his car from Saturday’s race, in which he was only able to finish 13th.
We have been strong here before and as a team we had a tough time yesterday, he added. Today the car was really good, we made a huge leap forward. Yesterday I felt like we had a top 12 car and today we had a car to win, so it’s a phenomenal turnaround.
It was a fun race, we were one lap down at one point, and from there we had two really good stints in the middle. The last stint was really good at the start, and I just struggled a bit at the end.

Power then finished second, just seven tenths behind Newgarden at the finish after the three-lap shootout at the end.
It was a pretty good reboot, Power said. We struggled massively at the start and my engineer made a really good change, just taking the wing, and that helped me a lot.
I had a very fast car but we just needed to do a few laps earlier so we could have been P2 to Josef, so I think we would have had a chance. It’s the best car I’ve had here.
Glad to get P2, as it’s hard to beat Josef here, but do it someday.
