In a shocking incident on July 20, at Dwarli on Shree Malang Gad Road in Kalyan, a 32-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after falling from his bike while trying to avoid potholes and being hit by a dump truck. The second incident happened on Friday July 21 on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, where another motorcyclist was seriously injured after falling while crossing a damaged section of the road. The deceased was identified as Suraj Gawari, a resident of Chinchpada locality of Kalyan who worked as a supervisor in a private company in Anand Nagar MIDC, Ambernath. He is survived by his parents, wife, two-year-old son and two brothers. His family said Gawari left home on his bicycle at 10:30 p.m. Thursday for his night shift. Due to heavy rain, potholes appeared on several roads in Kalyan-Dombivli and on the pockmarked section of Dwarli, daily commuters said. One of Gawari’s brothers said he wanted the police to take action against those responsible for his brother’s death, whether it was KDMC officials or the contractor who failed to fill the potholes. Local Hill Line Police arrested the driver of the dump truck under the IPC Section for causing the death through negligence, cops said.
