Two days after a one-hour closed-door dismissal hearing with Acting Mayor Kim Janey on the fate of his job, Boston Police Commissioner Dennis White is embroiled in a vitriolic and public exchange of accusations and against -accusations with members of his family.
Whatever the outcome for White and City Hall, the past two days of vulgar accusations do nothing to dispel the shadow cast over the police department’s internal affairs (IA) unit.
After White’s ex-wife Sybil Mason (also a serving police officer) accused White of domestic violence in an interview with WBUR on Wednesday, White’s attorney on Thursday called on Janey to go public with the records of Mason’s IA, suggesting that these records would cast doubt on his credibility. as a witness.
White’s eldest daughter, Tiffany, and her sister-in-law, Connie Owens (Mason’s sister), testified that Mason and not White was the abuser when the two married.
The 22-year-old domestic violence allegations against White came to light two days after then-mayor Marty Walsh named White the best cop in town in February.
White was quickly suspended, and then after the results of a three-month independent investigation were turned over to Janey, she requested White’s removal.
White sued unsuccessfully to keep his job. Since then, Janey’s remarks about her future have been more tempered.
White also submitted another affidavit under oath, addressing a recent social media post from her youngest daughter, Brittany White.
I disciplined Brittany as she grew up in various non-physical ways and also spanked her if needed with an open hand on her clothed butt. I never slapped, punched or otherwise punched her, White said in the affidavit.
When Brittany became a teenager there were a few times when she seriously disrespected me at home. I never responded physically or violently, he continued, describing a case where he called Randolph police to escort the then teenager out of his home.
Janey’s administration was silent Thursday afternoon as the new documents were made public.
Janey did not say when she would make a decision and did not respond to GBH News requests for comment on Thursday.
