CNNs Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter kicked off White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Sunday for constructive criticism, asking what the press is wrong when it covers the Bidens agenda? His choice of opening topics rubbed many the wrong way.
Although Psaki did not give specific examples, she said: Some of our muscles have atrophied a bit over the past few years, and there is not much recent or longer memory on the how long it takes to move legislation forward or how badly the negotiation process and the process of getting across the finish line to legislation can be.
So we know, we understand that everyone is always looking for a deadline, a timeline, things like that, she added. I don’t know if the press is wrong. I’ll let you criticize, Brian.
Psaki then said: Sometimes we forget how weird the past four years have been, and when we go back to a place where democracy works, where we were talking to Democrats and Republicans, where we were trying to get projects through. of law and laws, it seems foreign. But that’s actually how it’s supposed to work.
Here’s an excerpt from the segment, via The Washington Examiner:

Stelters’ opening question drew some critical eyes on Twitter. Journalist Glenn Greenwald mocked the interview, tweeting on Stelter: No one is saying Jen Psaki can’t complain about the media (but why would she?). People are just horrified that you had a few minutes to question the spokesperson for the nominally most powerful politician in the world and started out with: Jen, tell us how bad was and can be better?
Trump’s former White House press secretary Sean Spicer also joined in the action, tweeting sarcastically: Are we doing a good enough job of pushing the White House talking points, can we do better ?
The story continues
Stelter sought to summarize the reaction he was receiving, tweeting that the Liberals were angry with him for asking Psaki why President Biden was not holding more press conferences, while the Tories were furious because he had asked what the press was wrong about the administration.
My Twitter mentions right now: Liberals are angry because I asked @PressSec why Biden wouldn’t hold more press conferences. The Conservatives enraged because I asked him ‘what do you think we are wrong? And I feel so old fashioned, thinking to myself “judge the interview in context”
