DETROIT – A Detroit restaurant is pushing back allegations it fired an employee over a race-based comment she made.
Media revealed that the employee, identified as Christine Turner, used the term “fair-skinned,” prompting a complaint from two co-workers.
But the “current account of what happened is just not accurate,” read a Green Dot Stables post on Facebook.
“During this employee’s seven shifts, this person engaged in a series of unprofessional behaviors towards several employees of different races / national origins and sexual orientations. Despite the advice, the behavior did not change.” , we read in the message.
The company initially offered a brief response when asked about the employee and the subsequent protests that started outside the restaurant in late May, saying “We respect the privacy of our employees and do not discuss personnel matters “.
But since then the company has said “during our silence there have been multiple instances of harassment and threatening comments directed at other members of our staff.”
At the end of May, a dozen people showed up in front of the restaurant to protest Turner’s dismissal.
They protested after a flyer accused Green Dot Stables of firing a black woman for “discriminating” against white colleagues. She allegedly told a joke about herself and used the term “fair skin” which had nothing to do with white people.
