Bhopal: The bench of Indore of the high court of Madhya Pradesh asked the government MP to answer a litigation of public interest (PIL) which accuses the authorities of negligence in the treatment of the intercommunal clashes following a campaign of collection of funds for the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the senior state government official said on Tuesday.

We received the copy of the DIP on Monday, so I asked the court to give us time to respond. The court gave (the state government) six weeks to submit a counter-response, Madhya Pradesh additional attorney general Pushyamitra Bhargava said.

The 33-page petition filed by top Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said the MP’s government failed to take action to stop the clashes that erupted in December 2020 in MP’s three districts, Indore, Dhar and Ujjain, after a fundraising campaign for Ayodhya temple. .

This left a trail of community violence, disruption of community peace and harmony, and destruction of the property of victims and others, the petition from the former chief ministers said.

Singh said he supports Shri Ram Mandir’s pious building work in Ayodhya but the fundraising must be voluntary. In addition, he said, members of the minority community should not be coerced or threatened to donate for this pious purpose.

Some organizations have targeted members of the Madhya Pradesh minority community in an effort to show dominance and disrupt community harmony in Madhya Pradesh state, according to the petition, referring to some incidents of violence when the rallies passed through areas dominated by Muslims.

The state government and the police appeared to have been inactive and negligent in carrying out their statutory and administrative functions, he said, arguing that the communal violence in the three districts demonstrated an attempt to spread the violence. .

Singh’s petition said the relevant government officials not only acted negligently, but in some places they witnessed the entire episode without taking action against the culprit.

Lawyer Ravindra Singh Chhabra, who filed the petition for Singh, said he submitted video clips, WhatsApp chats and other documentary evidence to support his charge.

Madhya Pradesh Police Director General Vivek Johri declined to comment. The matter is currently before the courts, so I cannot comment on it.
