As ex-Minnesota Police Officer Kim Potter is on $ 100,000 bond pending manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, victims of his alleged violence army are still in shock and the top Democrats who flocked to his funeral have grown calm.
Wright is accused of shooting a teenager and a former classmate on multiple occasions in a pair of civil lawsuits against his estate.
In May 2019, 16-year-old Caleb Livingston was at a Full Stop gas station in Minneapolis when Wright allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, according to one of the prosecutions.

Livingston is now in a “vegetative state” known as insensitive arousal syndrome, according to attorney Mike Padden, who represents the two plaintiffs against the Wrights estate.
Seven months later, Wright was charged with aggravated theft after a young woman accused him of holding her at gunpoint, suffocating her and asking her to hand over hundreds of dollars.

Wright and a friend attended a party at two women’s homes, then slept on the floor. The next morning, the victim’s roommate gave him $ 820 in cash for the rent. After she left, Wright allegedly blocked the remaining woman in the apartment and pointed a gun in her face.
“Give me the money f ——,” he told her, according to the criminal complaint. “I know you have it.”
Then he wrapped his fingers around her throat and “choked her while trying to pull the money out of her bra,” she told police. She started screaming, he tried to choke her again, and he finally walked away empty-handed.
Wright later violated the terms of his probation in the robbery case and was charged with wielding a black handgun near a Minneapolis intersection before giving it up and running away on foot, escaping the agents who responded. When police arrested him in April, they discovered he had a warrant related to this incident and attempted to arrest him.

Three weeks before his death, Wright and an accomplice allegedly shot former classmate Joshua Hodges in the leg and stole his car, according to the second civil lawsuit.
The accomplice’s bullet allegedly shattered his fibula, hit an artery and left permanent damage.

Hodges was able to identify Wright because, prior to the hijacking, he exited another vehicle without a mask and the two made eye contact, according to the lawsuit. Wright would have masked himself and continued anyway.
“[Wright] was accidentally killed by a Brooklyn Center cop on April 11, 2021, about three weeks after his crimes against [Hodges]”, we read in the civil complaint.” After this accidental death, a false account began to establish [Wright] as a youngster whom young people admired, when in fact a warrant was in place for his bail violations for a past crime. [He] had previously chosen a life of crime.
The 20-year criminal record also includes misdemeanor convictions for drug dealing and disorderly conduct.
The Wright family’s legal team, led by civil rights attorney Ben Crump, called the posthumous civil complaints a “character assassination.”
“The daring of this lawyer is disappointing, and we implore members of the community not to be drawn into these opportunistic efforts to take Daunte down and injure her family,” they said of Padden. “Schemes like these aim to do one thing: distract. But our team will not be distracted in our fight for justice in this case and in our fight for justice for all marginalized communities.”
Despite Wright’s history of violence, leading Minnesota Democrats attended his funeral and sat on stage. They included Governor Tim Walz, Senses Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith, and State Attorney General Keith Ellison, as well as Representative Ilhan Omar, in the district in which Wright had lived.
“We know this tragedy is linked to the deep and systemic racism in our society that blacks in Minnesota and across the country face every day,” Walz said at the funeral.
None of them responded to requests for comment as to whether they were aware of their case when they attended the funeral or the details of the aggravated theft complaint.
Potters’ body camera video showed Wright surrounded by police officers, one of whom had his hands pulled behind his back. Wright freed himself from the handle and jumped into the driver’s seat of his car, then turned it on.

“Taser! Taser ”Potter could be heard screaming, although she instead pulled out her handgun and fired a single shot at Wright from a few inches away. The car took off, then crashed. Wright died and a passenger was injured.
Investigators initially called the shooting an accident and said Potter intended to take his Taser and not the gun, but she later resigned from the department and faces manslaughter charges in second degree.
