After a Filipino food truck in the Salt Lake City suburb of Layton was the target of racist vandalism, Jordan Clarkson helped the company resume operations.
The Philippine U.S. Guardian of Utah Jazz tweeted on Monday that he had partnered with local Identity Graphix vehicle wrap store to restore the truck’s exterior. Now the World Famous Yum Yum Food Truck has a new look and a plan to get back on the road.
“It hurt me deeply to see that the @yumyumasion food truck in Salt Lake was recently vandalized, I know the pain of hate language and racism,” Clarkson wrote. It included a photo of the newly wrapped truck and an image of the graffiti which includes an insult and a racist sketch. “

The truck will carry a new envelope “with pride”
The food truck’s Instagram page sent a message of thanks to Clarkson for helping him recover from the racist vandalism:
“I really can’t describe how much that means to us right now. I’m upset that midway through the playoffs Jordan Clarkson took the time to support our food truck and get our truck wrapped. our truck by it means so much to us and we will wear it with pride. “
Companies have already been victims of racism
The truck released another statement thanking its community, Identity Graphics, Layton Mayor Joy Petro and City Council members Clint Morris and Zach Bloxham. The newly wrapped truck is scheduled to make its debut on Saturday in celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
Morris helped raise awareness of the incident, tweeting an image of the vandalism last weekend while noting that this was the second time this year that the truck has been the target of racism. Incidents of anti-Asian hate have increased across the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clarkson’s involvement comes at a particularly visible time for the Jazz guard. He won the NBA’s sixth man of the year award in May and helped the seeded Jazz win Game 1 against the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday in their second-round playoff series.
