Former President Donald Trump on Friday criticized union leaders for supporting President Joe Biden and held them responsible for the loss of “thousands of jobs” following the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline earlier this week.
“The union representing the big workers who are building the Keystone XL pipeline has endorsed Biden,” Trump said in a written message. “Now their workers are out of work and the pipeline, which was under construction (like the southern border wall), has been closed, with thousands of jobs lost and the company announced yesterday that she “withdraws definitively”.
Trump also suggested that unionized workers stop paying their dues in protest.
“You should vote against these people immediately and stop paying your union dues,” he said. “A total waste of money. And I said it was going to happen before the 2020 presidential hoax!”
SOUTH DAKOTANS “PASSED” AND “ANGRY” FOR KEYSTONE CANCELLATION
Canadian developer TC Energy announced on Wednesday it had disconnected the Keystone XL pipeline. The decision to pull out of the $ 8 billion project has come at a devastating cost to communities who have placed their hopes and investments in the success of the massive cross-border venture.
Had the plans remained in place, Keystone XL would have connected two points of an existing pipeline, also known as Keystone, which carries Canadian crude oil to the United States.
The struggle for the pipeline has dragged on for more than a decade, and its fate has shifted from administration to administration.
The Keystone XL pipeline was first offered in 2008. Since then, it has become a cautionary tale about what happens when economic development, climate change and politics collide.
Former President Barack Obama rejected a key US permit for the project in 2015, citing environmental concerns.
Trump overturned Obama’s decision on his third day in office and remained a staunch supporter of the multibillion-dollar pipeline throughout his presidency.
The story continues
Construction began last year after a $ 1.1 billion infusion from the Government of Alberta kicked off the project.
