Former President Bill Clinton and bestselling author James Patterson have teamed up again for a second detective novel. A book reviewer tells WTOP that it sounded “silly” to him.
Former President Bill Clinton and bestselling author James Patterson have teamed up again for a second detective novel.
In their new book, “The President’s Daughter,” a fictitious former president gathers a team of experts to find his daughter because the government won’t help him.
But for a book reviewer, the novel failed.
Washington Post literary critic Ron Charles wrote in his review that he kept asking himself, “Can this story get any dumber?”
“In that regard, it’s a novel that continually defies expectations, all presented in chapters so short you could read one while yawning,” Charles wrote.
He told WTOP he would have liked a better read.
“It seems to me that the energy of the book is just zapped by the coagulated writing,” Charles told WTOP. “I thought it was silly and not as exciting as I would like.”
He said that while there were some exciting moments in the story, he was overshadowed by further explanation and unnecessary detail.
Despite his criticism, Charles predicts that “The President’s Daughter” will sell well, as will the duo’s first book. “The President’s Daughter” is already one of the top sellers on Amazon’s fiction list.
In 2018, Clinton and Patterson published “The President Is Missing”. It was a bestseller.
Although the premises of the two books are similar, The Presidents Daughter is not a sequel to the first book. It’s an independent novel with new characters.
