STATEN ISLAND, NY The District Attorney’s Office is investigating allegations of voter fraud made by Mid-Island City Council candidate David Carr against main Republican rival Marko Kepi.

Carr sent a letter to District Attorney Michael E. McMahon on Thursday alleging that Kepis’ campaign was illegally collecting ballots and falsifying voter registration requests.

Over the past two months, hundreds of postal ballot requests have been submitted on behalf of Marko Kepis’ campaign in this election; many of the applications contained forged signatures that did not match the signatures of the relevant voters registered with the New York City Council of Elections (BOE), according to the letter. This ballot collection operation consists of requests that are criminally submitted on behalf of voters and unlawfully authorize specific individuals associated with the Kepi campaign to collect these ballots on their behalf.

As a result, I have serious doubts that the ballots will be forwarded to the appropriate voters to be filled out, signed and sealed by them according to the law, writes Carr.

Carr told Advance / SILive.com that when reviewing registrations and postal voting requests, we found clear and visible patterns of counterfeiting, illegal manipulation and outright fraud. He even requested a postal ballot for a dead man.

The deceased person Carr referred to is Hajrula Bislimi, who the nominee said died aged 85 on July 19, 2020.

Carrs’ letter alleges that the voter registration and postal voting requests were submitted on behalf of Bislimis on May 28 and June 9 of this year. The requests included his correct information, including his name, the last four digits of his Social Security number, and his address, Carr alleges, but there were two key differences from the original records on file with BOE a different signature and the Bislimis sex was listed as a female instead of a male.

I think it’s disgusting that Marko Kepi is trying to steal this election from voters on Staten Island, especially after everything we’ve been through in last year’s election, Carr continued.

KEPI REFUSES THE CHARGES, RETURNS

Kepi issued a statement in response to the allegations via email.

It should be very obvious that David Carr, who has let the people of Staten Island down for the past eight years as chief of council office, is desperate in his failed campaign for city council.

No wonder the ever Trumper David Carr uses a liberal tactic of senseless attempt to get me to investigate false allegations, just as they have repeatedly done against President Trump.

Kepi stressed that his campaign was conducted in accordance with all relevant policies.

My campaign complies with all rules and regulations governing elections in New York City and David Carr is pathetic for claiming otherwise, he said.

Carr and Kepi will face Jordan Hafizi, Sam Pirozzolo and Kathleen Sforza in the Republican primary for the seat of Minority Leader Steven Matteos on June 22.

Early voting for the primary began on Saturday and will continue until June 20.
