Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Monday that Pakistan would take no responsibility if blamed for any deterioration in the Afghan peace process.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Pakistan-Afghan bilateral dialogue in Islamabad, the foreign minister said Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and a small group will visit Washington soon.
“I wish them good luck and a good visit, but let me make it clear in advance. If the goal of going to Washington is to start a new blame game and hold Pakistan accountable for all evil [in Afghanistan] and the lack of progress in [peace] process, then it won’t help.
“It’s a shared responsibility and no one is going to buy it anymore unless things go wrong [then] Pakistan is responsible. We will not take any responsibility, “the foreign minister said, adding that Pakistan was” honest and sincere “in building a peace process in Afghanistan.

He said it was up to the Afghans to decide the way forward for the country and find people who could. “Afghanistan needs leadership capable of negotiating a positive outcome [and] who can move this country to peace and does not worry about the perpetuation [and] cling to power. ”
Qureshi stressed that Pakistan wanted to join forces with Afghanistan, the region and the United States to fight terrorism, adding that Pakistan had suffered and “paid a price” in lives lost, in martyred soldiers, in mosques bombed and in economic loss.

He said Pakistan had made a “very clear decision” not to interfere in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.

FM Qureshi stressed that “time is running out” and that leadership must be found that enjoys the confidence of the Afghans. He urged the Afghan leadership and the Taliban to be flexible, adding that the region would go nowhere if they continued to stick to their positions.
