An arson investigation was launched after a house off the A5 was destroyed by a massive fire.

Five crews from the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and Warwickshire Police officers were called to a large house known as Fyves Court on Watling Street after a massive fire ravaged the property, engulfing the most of the top floor and roof.

The house, located opposite the Royal Redgate pub, left a burnt shell in the aftermath of the blaze, and police have confirmed they are treating the blaze like arson.

Seven devices, including the huge revolving ladder, were called to the fire on Saturday evening, with fire departments telling CoventryLive they had received multiple 999 calls about a fire at the property.

A spokesperson for the Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control has received several calls regarding an abandoned building fire along the A5 in Nuneaton.

“A total of five fire apparatus, 1 turntable ladder, a water tank and other specialized apparatus and officers were present.

“It was a large, unoccupied, well-lit derelict building. There were no casualties. Police were involved in this incident and briefed the owners.”

The house sat empty for a while resulting in vandals, but the owners were in the process of renovating it to get the property back into service.

Investigators now want to hear from anyone with the information, especially those with CCTV footage.
