Charles Barkley pays a little more attention to the comments he chooses to make on national television.
On Monday’s edition of “Grant and Danny” on 106.7 The Fan, Barkley blamed “[politically correct] people “for enjoying the” NBA on TNT “show which features Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson discussing the league’s most important topics. Barkley believes that every panel member always offers a fun contribution but know there is always the possibility of a strong reaction.
“You can’t even have fun these days without these assholes trying to get you to cancel and things like that,” Barkley said. “Just having fun, talking about sports. I try to hang on for a few more years until I’m 60, then they can fuck my ass. I only work until I’m 60. I already have them for them. Said. We can’t even have fun anymore. We’ve had fun all these years, and now all of a sudden for a year and a half, everybody’s been trying to get everybody fired, and it’s really bad. “

The 58-year-old said on the radio that “they wouldn’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore” after the comments he repeatedly made about the women in town. Barkley previously referred to them as “great women”, prompting a strong backlash and accusations of “big shame”. He defended the comments by saying the San Antonio natives had fun with him, even creating t-shirts with replies to Barkley’s infamous quote.
He also defended the jokes he made late at night when the “NBA on TNT” team tries to fill hours of programming following a “shit game.”
“Nobody is watching this game. Our relatives [are]I didn’t even watch that show after that, “Barkley said.” And then around 1pm you’re like, ‘Dude, I’m gonna say something just for fun.’ But like I did. Said, now you really have to think about all the funny things you were saying. “
The Hall of Fame has said that one of their favorite phrases is “agree to disagree,” but nowadays, disagreeing with someone can mean getting fired.
“They’re coming for your head, and a lot of our bosses are cowards,” Barkley said. “I said, ‘Context matters. They’re like, ‘The context doesn’t matter.’ I said, “This is total BS. Context must always matter.” But now if you joke the wrong way they’ll say, ‘Oh, no, no, no, no. You crossed a line. ‘”
