Hajin: Residents of Hajin town in Bandipora district in northern Kashmir have accused city officials of failing to keep the town neat and clean. Locals, while blaming city officials and local administration, said that a walk along the banks of the river, major roads Once would revitalize a person and locals preferred to spend their free time in this healthy environment, but now the irresponsible residents and the indifferent approach of the Hajin municipal committee have created a mess area. Local trader Ahmad Showkat who runs a hosiery store in the main Hajin market told Kashmir Reader that locals and some traders and residents near the area are to blame for throwing garbage and other rubbish on the landfills and the main roads which give off a foul odor. To add to the problems, some traders are also piling up trash on the main roads which smells foul this summer and has made the lives of locals hell. The residents said that the internal, connecting and main roads remain unclean and that no cleanliness campaign is carried out by the city’s municipal authorities. They said that the Hajin municipal committee and its employees never carried out a clean-up campaign in the area to keep the area clean and that they did not clear the landfill in Jhelum. Another resident Mohammad Arif says we do not understand why the Hajin Municipal Committee fails to keep the city clean, if it is within its purview, no trash cans have been installed in the main market which traders could have used for waste collection. In the summer, a foul odor emanates from the garbage accumulated on the embankments and municipal authorities have not bothered to remove or act against stray traders or nearby residents under municipal law. Trash canapes have been distributed to # 1 and # 2 wards and the coming days will be provided to the remaining remaining wards Asked about the garbage dumped on the side of the road, Waseem said action would be taken against the offenders.
