Popular YouTuber Madan OP did not appear before cybercrime police in Chennai on Monday after being summoned on the basis of abuse allegations. At least two people have filed complaints against Madan with the Pulianthope Cyber Crime, alleging that he uses obscene language online when people disagree with him, is often heard abusing women and behaves like a inappropriately with underage girls.
Chennai City Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal said on Sunday that an investigation was underway and action would be taken against Madan if it was found that he had used objectionable material.
Police have sent letters to YouTube and Instagram to block Madan’s channels and are looking to see if more people are associated with his accounts.
The allegations against Madan also sparked a storm on social media, with several activists urging police to take legal action. “#ArrestMadanOP” was also all the rage on Twitter.
Madan has two YouTube channels where he posts videos and live streams the popular game PUB-G, which is now banned in India. His channels – one in his name which has 777,000 subscribers and another called “Toxic Madhan” which has 100,000 subscribers – are seen by several children. His Instagram account has around 271,000 subscribers.
We learn that Madan used to monitor his channels via Super Chat on YouTube. Young people would send him 5,000 to 10,000 rupees while he broadcast videos, which sometimes lasted more than 15 hours a day.
Local reports claim that Madan never showed his face during the live broadcast and was using a VPN to play the game.
