49ers’ McGlinchey regrets responding to 2020 reviews that originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
The 2020 NFL season has been an eventful one for the 49ers, including right tackle Mike McGlinchey.
McGlinchey, who the 49ers drafted with the No.9 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has struggled for pass protection for the first time in his career and faced widespread criticism from the media and members alike. very much in line with the 49ers fan base.

I think no one watches a full football game and they choose a lazy narrative of a game and they see something on Twitter and they think they figured it out. But no, I think it’s been a solid, solid year. Obviously I have a lot of things to improve, but I’m doing this week after week , and just to clean.
McGlinchey was still a dominant run blocker in 2020 and has used the offseason to strengthen himself in order to be more effective in protecting passes. The 49ers have chosen McGlinchey’s fifth-year option this offseason, signaling that they still believe he’s part of their long-term plans on the offensive line.

McGlinchey has digested her 2020 film and knows there have been some bad times. He knows he needs to be better and plans to be better.
“But the point is, I had some bad times last year,” McGlinchey told Hutchinson. “I certainly deserved some of the criticism I received. I don’t know if it was to be as extensive as week to week, but that’s what happens when you are a focal point of your attack. who is sort of injury riddled with that I was a first round pick so expectations are high. Expectations for myself are high but on top of that I understand how frustrating things have been last year and there were some bad things I filmed that will never happen again. ”
