Even with just over a year on the main event stage under his kilt, Drew McIntyre is unfazed by the hatred.
Speaking to Ryan Satin on Out of Character, the former WWE Champion said he appreciates beneficial comments, but is “hardened” to small criticism.
“These days, because of my background, all the ups and downs, I’m so hardened to criticism,” McIntyre said. “But I never worry if it’s constructive criticism. I appreciate constructive criticism.
While he’s relatively new to the world title picture in the grand scheme of things, McIntyre has been linked with the WWE Championship for just about every pay-per-view month since the 2020 Royal Rumble. The Scottish Warrior noted that he was getting fans. opinions, but put it in perspective.
“I understand that some fans might be like ‘Ugh, I would like a fresh new face in the picture,’” McIntyre said. “Actually, I’ve been fighting for the title, or been champion, for over a year now, which is a pretty big time, but I don’t think anybody’s saying, ‘Oh my God, Drews isn’t not working as hard as he can to give us the best possible matches and do the best he can with every interview possible. I think it’s more, “I’d love to see something different here and see Drew do something different here.”
McIntyre’s two combined 300-day reigns took place in crowded arenas. The former NXT champion failed to secure his big win in front of WrestleMania 37 fans, but McIntyre reassured his moment was drawing near.
“I would love to reclaim Lashley’s title and walk in front of the fans once we get back on the road as a WWE Champion,” McIntyre said. “But if he somehow messes me up just to keep the title, I’ll have my moment in front of the fans.”
