Another soldier of the 1st Armored Division, Pfc. Christian G. Alvarado, faces court martial this week for several sexual assaults over the past year, including the alleged rape of Graham in 2019 while she was unconscious.

Alvarados’ court martial began Monday and is expected to last the rest of the week, according to military minutes posted online.

Alvarado is accused of raping Graham while she was unconscious in late December 2019, in Fort Bliss, according to his indictments. Graham was found dead about a year after the alleged assault.

Graham had been posted to Fort Bliss, his first duty station, for only a month before the incident. Army CID officials said earlier this year that they did not suspect any foul play in his death.

Alvarados’ trial follows a year in which sexual assault and harassment in the military has attracted increased public scrutiny and exposed chronic failures at Fort Hood, another Texas military post, which, according to an independent committee, could reflect problems in other facilities.

Alvarado is also accused of committing two other sexual assaults on May 8 and August 26. The names of these victims were redacted from the indictments, although Graham’s name was not.

During the May 8 indictment, Alvarado had sex with a woman too drunk to consent, according to the indictments. On August 26, he sexually assaulted another woman, the indictments added.
