Waterbury, Connecticut (WTNH) Neighbors defend a new neighbor after she receives a hateful and racist letter in the mail about her family.
The mediator at a Wednesday night meeting said: I mean we all work together doesn’t make a difference and someone sitting there and doing a letter like this is basically just cowardly.
Neighbors said they wanted nothing more than to welcome Tashia Autry and her family to the neighborhood.
A few have spoken during the evening’s Leitrim question.
One person said, I am angry about this. I am very angry.”

Another said: “It broke my heart to be honest with you that someone had to do that, he’s a coward and won’t even come and say I did that.”
Whoever wrote this letter is obnoxious and inappropriate, continued another resident.
Tashia received a letter two weeks ago from someone who was upset because she allegedly played music too loud.
Tashia said, where am I from? how do you know where i come from did you just assume because of my color? “
This person kept writing things like … please leave your ghetto across town and no one wants to hear your music blowing up in your car radios while you are sitting in your car smoking drug.
Several neighbors were appalled and apologized to her and her family for this person’s ignorance.
Tashia, was not at the meeting.
Neighbor Nicole Kendall said: We have such a wide variety of affiliations at East Mountain and one of the things that is so great about Waterbury is the diversity and the culture.
If someone has been bothered they don’t deserve this kind of letter, just do it in the proper way and I think this letter was justified and the way it was written, said Alderman George Noujaim .
Another anonymous letter was also sent to Alderman Noujaim who spoke out on the matter when this happened.
He said he was disgusted and wanted this person to be held accountable.
If you know who wrote this letter, please call Waterbury Police.
