Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll were withdrawn from the recent Azerbaijani Grand Prix after suffering blowouts to the left-back in the long straight start / finish.
Pirelli’s conclusion of its chess investigation stated that “operating conditions” were causing the problems, but it did not develop the underlying problems.
However, a quick response from the FIA to increase tire pressure and temperature checks for this weekend’s French Grand Prix, offered answers on teams potentially trying to work around the limits being a factor.
And while Red Bull and Aston Martin both insisted they were following Pirelli’s advice on racing parameters, Hamilton suggested ahead of the French GP that the problem was likely with what the teams were doing.
“As you know every weekend, whenever there’s a failure, they always put the pressure on – so that tells you something,” he said.
” Most of the time, [it’s] that the tires do not roll at the pressures required. We had no problem with our tires.
“I think they’ve done a great job with the tires this year, they’re tougher than before, and I think in this particular case I don’t think Pirelli is at fault.”

Hamilton said he welcomed the increased tire checks the FIA is putting in place for Paul Ricard, as he suggested the governing body had not been robust enough to monitor potential violations in the past.
“At the end of the day, safety is always the priority,” he said. “And for me and for my team, there have been clear rules and guidelines as to where we have to operate.
“So I was naturally very surprised to see that they [the FIA] had to clarify these, which obviously you can get out of it what you want.
“I’m glad they recognized that they needed to clarify it, and I think what’s really, really important from now on is how they control it, because they haven’t controlled how tires are being used, tire pressure, tire temperatures, and we have to do better.
“It’s great that they made a touchdown, but it’s action now. We have to see them really call and be really vigilant to make sure it’s level all over the pitch.”
