SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) – North Beach resident Iryna Gorb has been collecting surveillance footage of burglaries since last year, before and after San Francisco police arrested Daniel Cauich in connection with several burglaries in his neighborhood. last fall.
“He got our attention and we looked at him and recognized him right away,” Gorb said.
She says she spotted Cauich several times after his arrest.
“It was anger and surprise and disbelief,” Gorb said.
Caiuch, 35, now faces attempted murder charges, among other charges, for stabbing Ann “Peng” Taylor, 94, near Post and Leavenworth in San Francisco on Wednesday.

Cauich went in and out of prison for years.
“We asked the court to detain him. It was our point of view and our written request to the court that he should be detained and we did not believe that he could be released safely. We made this argument in court, ”said San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin.
But a judge still granted Cauich’s release as part of the latest burglary charge against him in May 2021.
So far, the prosecutor’s office has secured three felony convictions against Cauich, who served 100 days in prison after pleading guilty to multiple 2nd degree burglary charges earlier this year.
The San Francisco Police Officers Association quickly escalated its war of words with DA Boudin.
In 2020 alone, Cauich was arrested 5 times on burglary charges. How many times has Boudin downgraded a crime to an offense? How many charges has he dismissed? How many days in prison did Cauich serve? Chesa must stop deflecting the blame. Full statement below. https://t.co/MqlgztlXFO pic.twitter.com/F3Dre1EIUl

The stabbed victim’s neighbors are frustrated.
“It’s amazing to see the story of the crimes he committed and he was allowed out,” said Taylor’s neighbor Francesco Benvenuti.
The Mayor of London Breed confirms that she and Boudin have spoken about the details of this case.
“It’s up to the prosecutor’s office to take it to the next level. It is up to the courts and the prosecutor to develop the evidence and the courts to make the decision and I hope they will do the right thing this time, ”said Breed.

Cauich is due in court on Friday.
Friends of the victim say Taylor is in stable condition.
