Yesterday, HBO Max subscribers were puzzled by a mysterious email that landed in their inbox with the subject line “Integration test email # 1”. The message, which arrived spontaneously last night, consisted of only one line, which read: “This model is used only by integration tests”.
While the email was clearly enough of a mistake, that didn’t stop Twitter from jumping at the chance for a joke, and the topic “Integration Test Email” was all the rage within hours. .
Some subscribers joked that the post was a particularly devious promo for a new HBO Max series. One wrote: “I hope the integration test email will be renewed for a second season”, while another added: “Lol if it turns out that the Email blunder HBO Max is a stunt for a new show called Integration Test Email, so kudos to the marketing team. “
Hoping the # 1 integration test email I just got from @hbomax is sort of the first step in some extremely smart viral marketing for #Peacemaker.

And while the email caused a stir online last night, not all HBO Max subscribers were included in what has quickly become the internet’s new favorite joke. As if the email wasn’t strange enough, it seemed to only be sent to some subscribers, not all. One Twitter user wrote: “@hbomax Where’s my integration test email?!?! #disappointed. ”Another tweeted,“ There are two types of people. The ones that got the HBO Max integration test email and the mooches. ”
And of course, a lot of people were making jokes about who, exactly, was responsible for the viral failure, with most users suspecting an unlucky intern. “Prayers for the HBO Max intern who just sent an integration test email to 50 million people,” one wrote. Another added: “Really #HBOMax, your integration test email worked. Poor HBO intern.
But despite all the jokes, HBO Max admitted that it was actually an intern who made the unfortunate mistake. “We mistakenly sent an empty test email to part of our HBO Max mailing list tonight. We apologize for the inconvenience, and as the jokes pile up, yes, that was the intern. Not really. And help them get through it. ”They tweeted last night.

After the message spread, support for the intern poured in, with subscribers even praising them for a successful, albeit unintentional, viral marketing stunt. “Dear intern, Sending the # 1 integration test email (it passed by the way) could be the best marketing @hbomax has ever done. Congratulations! Get yourself a beer or two, ”one wrote.
