WILMINGTON, MA Certain allegations of child abuse or neglect against one or more staff at Wilmington Public Schools have been substantiated by a state investigation, while a separate set of allegations have been brought against a another staff member, Superintendent Glenn Brand said in a letter to the community on Thursday.

The two staff members were placed on administrative leave pending allegations from the Children and Family Department.

Officials learned of allegations of child abuse against staff at the Wildwood Early Childhood Center in Wilmington in May.

The Lowell Sun reported that a Wilmington father posted on Facebook on Tuesday that he noticed “an absolutely absurd amount of bruising” on his three-year-old son’s legs when he picked him up from school last month.

The staff in question were put on leave and the district hired an outside lawyer to conduct an independent investigation, Brand said.

“We recently learned from DCF that some of the claims have been taken care of,” Brand said. “The independent investigation we commissioned is still ongoing.”

The district learned of the second set of allegations last week, Brand said. They relate to a staff member at Wilmington Middle School.

The college staff member is also on administrative leave, pending a state investigation.

“Out of respect for everyone involved and based on legal requirements, we are unable to discuss the details of these cases,” Brand said. “However, we would like to state unequivocally that any student or family who presents Allegations of misconduct, harassment or abuse will be investigated into such allegations with all the thoroughness and seriousness they deserve. “
