Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Everton defender Michael Ball believes Farhad Moshiri needs to take responsibility for the Toffees’ current situation.

Despite some big signings last summer, notably James Rodriguez, Everton once again failed to take the next step and qualify for Europe.

Since then, they have lost Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid and have looked at various managers in their search for a successor.

In the end, it all got a bit too complicated for Ball, who singled out the club owner.

“Moshiri, yes he has invested a lot of money in the football club,” said the former Everton full-back. “But I think he’s only responsible for himself, for the money he wasted on the players he wanted and the managers he actually appointed.

“It didn’t work, so why not trust your technical director, your athletic director that you brought to the football club to improve.”

Indeed, there was a bit of disarray at Everton at times during Moshiri’s reign, especially now.

That being said, much of the craziness of recent times is largely down to Ancelotti’s shock release, which Moshiri and most people probably didn’t see coming.

It sets the club up for an interesting season, one where Ancelotti’s successor will hope to overtake Tottenham, Leicester City and West Ham, all of whom have clinched European places ahead of Everton.
