Azealia Banks Responds to Candace Owens Juneteenth Criticism

Azealia Banks is not impressed with Candace Owens Juneteenth’s comments.

Many across the country are celebrating the news of Juneteenth becoming a national holiday, but not Owens. She took to Twitter to blow up the holidays, but Banks didn’t have it and quickly hit back on Friday.

Juneteenth is so lame. Democrats really need to stop trying to repackage segregation. I will be celebrating July 4th and July 4th only. I’m American, Owens tweeted.

Juneteenth is from Galveston, Texas, where more than 200,000 enslaved blacks learned, two years after the publication of the Emancipation Proclamation, that they were free. It was months before the 13th Amendment was put in place to officially end slavery, as the Grio reported.

Banks returned to Owens with slightly sister Tread.

But the rapper didn’t stop there. By this logic, on July 4, 1776, you would still be in bondage, the rapper wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, by The Wrap. Most likely on the verge of starvation due to the prioritization of all Americas food supplies for war, as you hand sew American flags and struggle to breastfeed a depressed 24 year old white widow’s sick child. until your nipples are chapped and dry.

She also alluded to the Owens lynching. In a series of Instagram stories, she added: You really take it out on old black people [for] white and weird internet users, for their entertainment.

Is that what it means to be a conservative Black? It’s not what it means to be a black conservative, that you are making fun of black people. Hell, that’s not it, she said.

But Banks wasn’t the only one fighting back against Owens. We have been joined by many Twitter users.

Tell me how they didn’t invite you to the barbecue without saying they didn’t invite you to the barbecue, activist Amber Gustafson wrote.

I would suggest you read a history book, but I don’t know of any designed like a Dennys menu, so you’d be able to absorb it, author Matthew Dowd added.

Another typed: Oh what is it. Girl, I wasn’t following you made a lot of sense before, but now you’re just trying to be controversial for no reason. Celebrating Juneteenth doesn’t make you un-American.

Candace, blacks especially from the south, have always celebrated the date of the proclamation of emancipation (June 17). There is nothing lame about it because without it you wouldn’t be where you are today, added another.

As Owens slammed Juneteenth, the White House celebrated the day. President Joe Biden officially declared Juneteenth a federal holiday on Thursday.

There was a historic event at the White House to mark the occasion. Numerous members of the Congressional Black Caucus, black officials in the Biden administration, members of the civil rights community as well as singer Usher Raymond were in attendance.
