Devin Booker’s true feelings on critics after awarding Phoenix fan in viral fight video

Devin Booker maintains his belief that there is nothing wrong with rewarding the Phoenix Suns fan who went viral after battling two Denver Nuggets fans in their second playoff series.

As a reminder, Nick McKellar, the Suns loyalist in question, fought with some Nuggets fans in Game 3 of the series. They were apparently chatting to each other, but punches were thrown after one of the Denver fans poured beer on McKellar. After seeing the video, Booker then followed McKellar and eventually hooked him up with a signed jersey and tickets to the Western Conference Finals.

While it was certainly a big gesture, some people questioned the decision. On the one hand, 2016 NBA champion Richard Jefferson criticized the Suns star and pointed out that it could set a “bad precedent” – implying that violent behavior of this nature should not be tolerated or celebrated. .

Responding to criticism, however, Booker said he believed there was no “bad intention” in the fight and that McKellar was simply acting in self-defense.

“I just said what’s going on. I watched the whole video. I didn’t expect it to be like this, but he will be in the house, he will be at the game. We are looking forward to it. He’s very fiery for this team, ”said the Suns star, according to Kellan Olson of 98.7 Arizona Sports.

“You can walk down the line and say whether it was self-defense or not. I know that’s what everyone wants to hear but if you watch the full video I think he’s a pretty healthy guy who had no bad intentions and was forced to be put in this situation. .

It is true that, given the recent incidents involving NBA fans, there is cause for concern over Devin Booker’s actions. For what it’s worth, however, McKellar has already apologized and also noted that he’s only defending himself for the time being.

It’ll probably be better for Booker to ignore all the unnecessary noise as he prepares for the Western final against the Los Angeles Clippers. After all, with Chris Paul sidelined, the team will need him to be 100% focused.
