A little fan comeback doesn’t hurt, according to Ellen Pompeo. The Grays Anatomy star has said she understands where fans are coming from when they criticized Season 17 of the medical drama.
One viewer took to Twitter and praised the show, saying the final season is the most groundbreaking and landmark season, but another disagreed.
Guess I’m an alien because this season was a trash! I love the show but not this season, the viewer replied on Twitter.

Pompeo, 51, quoted the exchange on Twitter and replied: Everything is fine! Seventeen seasons, we can’t please everyone all the time, it’s definitely not easy to go on and keep it awesome.
Some Pompeos followers were offended that the person didn’t like Season 17. However, the Meredith Gray actress, who is one of three other members of the original cast, defended the critical fan. But why does someone say they don’t like something bad? It has literally been on for two decades !! Let her live, there are a lot of things I don’t like, the Boston native added.
The star added that she has only completed one long-running show, The Sopranos. The show ran for 86 episodes over six seasons, which doesn’t come close to the 380 episodes of Grays.
The 17th season of Grays Anatomy was almost entirely focused on COVID-19, making the romantic medical spectacle much darker. Meredith was eventually infected with the virus and went into a coma where she reunited with many deceased characters on the show, including Derek Shepard, Meredith’s late husband.

The story of the coronavirus convinced actor Patrick Dempsey to return to his role as a brain surgeon after leaving the show in 2015 when his character died. It was really up to us to get the message out to wear a mask, take care of yourself, he told Variety in April about the reason for his return.
He wouldn’t turn down a Season 18 arc, however. Who knows? Never say never with this show, right? Enchanted actor, 55, teased. I’m glad we did this year. And [showrunner] Krista Vernoff did a fantastic job telling the story. It was just a great way to give people some hope.
As to whether COVID-19 will play a role in the next season, Pompeo said viewers should wait until fall to find out, but she’s pretty sure next season will be lighter. Honestly, I don’t know, but I don’t think so, she added. It has been a lot for everyone, I hope the worst is behind us.
