PLANT CITY, Florida. Some days are worse than others when it comes to traffic jams, but in Plant City there seems to be a consistent backup that a Spectrum Bay News 9 viewer asked us to check out.
The location is west of US 92 at Branch Forbes Road.
Mark Boyett is an American 92 pilot. He noticed that the delays on his trips had become a little out of control.
“Sometimes back to the G Five Feed store and now to Turkey Creek, even on very, very bad days due to the number of trucks and our industrial park which is on Airport Road and Turkey Creek,” he said. he declares.
He puts the blame for the morning backups on the westbound traffic light at US 92 and Branch Forbes Road.
“I think the timing of the lights is way too slow,” Boyett said. “The trucks don’t have the momentum and it suddenly becomes rolling parking.”
Keep in mind that changes in signal timing depend on the time of day and the amount of traffic passing through an intersection.
Real-time traffic expert Chuck Henson shot a midday video there. The green light was available for 40 seconds.
Mark timed his signal earlier in the morning.
“Yes, 21 seconds is the time to ignite the fire for trucks and vehicles to clear the red light,” he said.
The intersection is maintained by Hillsborough County and Chris Wilkerson asked the traffic operations team to take a look.
As you would expect, there is a direct connection to the heavy traffic there, and when there is an accident nearby on Interstate 4.
US 92 is the primary alternative to the highway.
Wilkerson told us: The timing should be better for commuters in the morning and in the future. The traffic operations team will keep an eye on it during the mornings when a problem on I-4 forces commuters to look for alternate routes.
Wilkerson wasn’t able to comment on how much extra time was added on the west side, but said it should make a big difference in the morning’s ride.
