Critics tear DeSantis apart for sending Florida cops to southern border

At a press conference in Pensacola, DeSantis said the decision followed a joint letter that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey sent to governors in the other 48 states.

DeSantis, widely seen as a potential 2024 presidential candidate, used the media event to criticize President Joe Bidens’ record on border security.

The Biden administration has put an end to effective policies implemented by President Donald Trump to curb illegal immigration across the southern border, DeSantis said. They repealed policies designed to secure our border and keep Americans safe.

Representative Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, called DeSantis’ action another political coup, saying in a Twitter post that the governor’s priorities are out of whack.

Instead of perpetuating the attacks on immigrants and suing (the) Biden administration, why don’t you focus on the people who live in Florida, Eskamani wrote. We were dealing with a broken unemployment system and an affordable housing crisis you could fix!

Although the governor announced the decision to send officers from Florida to Texas and Arizona, details were scarce. The number of Florida officers who will be deployed, where they will go and the costs to Florida taxpayers have not been determined, DeSantis said Wednesday.
