A bishop who oversaw Anglican churches in central interior British Columbia resigned after sending “sexualized electronic communications” to another adult while he was a priest.
In a statement from Archbishop Linda Nicholls, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, she said Lincoln Mckoen’s relationship with the Church had been severed.
“Lincoln Mckoen resigned from his diocesan episcopal ministry due to allegations received on May 27, 2021 that Lincoln Mckoen presented himself as a priest (padre), elected bishop or bishop, by text and by electronically sent images that were sexually inappropriate. communications to an adult who resides outside the ecclesiastical province and with whom Lincoln Mckoen had a pastoral relationship, ”said Nicholls.
“Lincoln Mckoen agrees that the allegations are well founded.”
In his former role, Mckoen presided over the People’s Territory, which has 20 churches in 17 communities, including Quesnel, Williams Lake and Kamloops.
In another statement, Archbishop Lynne McNaughton, Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of British Columbia and the Yukon and Bishop of the Diocese of Kootenay, said the Anglican Church in Canada has a “strictly enforced zero tolerance policy.” for the faults.
In a letter to parishioners, McNaughton further noted the rules adopted by the church in 2001 that “expressed a commitment” to ensuring that those in positions of power “do not abuse that trust or that power. “
Mckoen was elected last year and took office in September. He told the church’s Anglican Journal at the time that being elected was “a massive and sacred trust placed in me by God and the people of the land.
“Being from outside the Territory, I must work to gain everyone’s trust and get to know each parish, pastor and congregation.
