The Kern County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday reported the arrest of a Shafter man on suspicion of stealing copper wire from various locations in Kern County.

Juan Regalado, 44, was apprehended on June 15 after the issuance of arrest warrants for copper wire thefts in the Buttonwillow, Shafter and Wasco areas, according to a press release from KCSO. He added that he was in possession of an illegal cane sword.

After Regalado’s arrest, investigators from the agency’s Rural Crimes Unit executed a series of search warrants allowing them to develop a probable cause that appears to incriminate him in 10 more thefts of farm equipment such as all-terrain vehicles and materials, including metal pipes, the release said. He estimated the total theft and damage in the Buttonwillow, Shafter and Wasco areas at $ 95,000.

Regalado was suspected of burglary, vehicle theft, criminal vandalism, robbery, theft of copper materials and possession of a cane sword.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the KCSO at 661-861-3110 or the Secret Witness line at 661-322-4040.
